It’s not a UFO, I was just waiting on the buttons.

Have you ever “failed” at a sewing project? Sometimes your project comes together all at once. You find a pattern then the perfect fabric (not your muslin but final garment fabric) then notions are easily procured. Sometimes it’s user error, sometimes its poor pattern fitting, this time it was a notions fail.

I’m still not sure how to “Summer” style this top but it’s going to be great in the winter

Other times you cut something wrong and run out of fabric, or the colors you were going to color block don’t come out quiet right. In this case it was the snaps. Beautiful dusty pink pearl I found discounted at WaWak. The teeth were just not long enough to go through the fine whale corduroy.

see no button gap and just a bit of shaping so I don’t look like a tent

getting a good shot of these buttons was hard

I have had many sewing fails, some just don’t work no matter how hard I try to rework it. This Harrison shirt (my second, you can see my first here) was going to be a combo Nani Iro print in double gauze and solid black mashup but I didn’t have enough print. So as I was on the hunt for another print in my stash to go with the black double gauze, I came across this fine whale corduroy from JoAnns.

It turned out fine, but that corduroy liked to shift grain on me. Another reason I feel high quality fabric is sometimes worth the extra expense. The Harrison is still a favorite button down, I mean no matter how I pose no button gap! Now buttons, I picked up some Italian pink pearlescent one’s at Mood LA but I didn’t LOVE the color, so I waited. I was rewarded for my patience with a huge button sale at my local JoAnn’s and while I scoured every peg found the perfect chartreuse glitter four hole beauties that are just perfect for this top.

So the moral of this story is trust your gut, sometimes you have to hurry up and wait.
